My career within the accountancy industry started back when I had just left school; I began working at a local management accounts company that provided outsourced accounting support to businesses primarily based in London and Cornwall. During my four years with this practice, I developed a very good knowledge of Sage Line 50, gained the AAT qualification and the IAB payroll qualification enabling me to provide the full function of an accounts assistant from sales and purchase ledger to producing management accounts.

 

After the four years an opportunity arose to set up my own bookkeeping and payroll business, which I took, and I continued to develop and expand this business for three years, when I was then offered a senior position at an established accountancy practice in the Chew Valley. After starting at the practice, I began training to become an accountant and produce statutory accounts and tax returns for individuals, partnerships and companies. Whilst carrying out the practical elements of my job during the working week, I started studying to gain my ACCA and ATT qualifications. In addition to carrying out the compliance work, I visited clients and supported them with their accounting requirements from troubleshooting Sage issues to producing management accounts and liaising with the directors / owners of the businesses.

 

As a result of my exams and dedication, I was fortunate enough to become a director and shareholder of the practice in 2010. In 2016, the practice merged with another, offering services from two locations. This led to my new primary role of managing the new practice.

 

This role continued for four years, after which I decided to step away and set up my own practice, which is now based within my garden log cabin office in Chilcompton. This change has enabled me to go back to doing what I enjoy doing the most; working with my clients and helping them look after their financial affairs and assisting with running their businesses in a personal professional manner.
